The main reason that I create art is to see how far I can go. Art was the first thing that I ever clinged to. It was the first thing that I had ever shown true enthusiasm for. I feel obligated to see how far I can take myself by using and improving my artistic skills. Mystery is what inspires the art that I create. I love coming up with a concept and then seeing how different it turns out in the end. I loved working on this portfolio because it was the first time that I had ever tried the raku firing process. For this entire portfolio I had been constantly experimenting with things that i had never heard or seen being used in combination, such as mixing raku and ash glazes, to form an exterior of raku and an interior of ash glaze. I always had a picture in my mind and was always delighted in seeing how off I always was. I was making discoveries. That is the mystery that I crave. This is what I hope my art will always be.
Ceramics and the perception of reality are closely intertwined. Reality is only as real as how you perceive it. I want to show people the possibilities of creating your own reality. A ceramic piece can evoke many different emotions depending on who is viewing it. For example, in my mind, whenever I look at my pieces, I think of how I was feeling during the creation of them. Therefore I recognize the emotion felt as being synonomous to the piece. The piece became the emotion. Instead of creating pieces, I like to think that I am creating raw emotion. I want to show others that creation stems all reality.
Reality is only as real as you make it.
